Combined Talents Create Successful Building Projects

Assembling teams of skilled and talented architects, engineers and tradespeople ensures your pre-engineered steel facility is built best.

Talented people are the heart of your building project. It starts with the brilliant and creative architects who design your building, through to the hard-working skilled tradespeople who get their hands dirty bringing it all to life. Along the way, professional engineers plan out the internal systems with meticulous detail and work with the project team to ensure your structure meets all your needs.

Constructing your dream building is a team effort. Building projects go through several phases, each handled by specialized professionals dedicated to their trade, each possessing a different set of skills. It’s important to understand how all these roles (from architect to engineer to construction crew to general contractor) fit together for the final construction to have a single point of contact to organize and coordinate activities. One complete turnkey project contractor ensures construction plans stay on track, stay on budget and meet critical timelines.

As a leading structural industrial and commercial builder, Double Black Construction prides itself on working with the best people and assembling the best teams to get your structural building project done right. We are the pre-engineered building company that’s as committed to your success as you are.
Building Projects Combine Talented Professional Groups
Commercial construction takes place in a variety of phases. Architects provide the vision and create the original blueprints the rest of the subsequent work will follow. Engineers then review the designs from a technical perspective to provide the expertise and assurance that all the structural and mechanical systems can actually turn the vision into reality. From there, the bulk of the hands-on work is left to various construction teams, all supervised by Double Black Construction, serving as your structural builder and general contractor. These two project roles involve different types of work – both equally valuable in delivering the final building.

The Steel Construction Phase
Complex industrial and commercial buildings start with a structural steel beam system that forms the skeleton of the building. Everything that’s assembled on site will go through the hands of the construction team. From preparing and pouring the foundation concrete, to installing and welding all the structure beams, girders and other steel structural elements (such as wall and roof panels), Double Black Construction ensures we are prepared to handle all the other mechanical components and design finishes that are installed later.

This ironworking phase starts once the concrete foundation has been put into place. As one of the most time-consuming parts of the project, steelworkers spend most of their time erecting the steel framework, which is made up of steel beams, girders and columns. Pre-engineered steel buildings use components and panels that are already pre-welded, pre-cut, pre-hole punched, pre-plumbed and pre-wired so the on-site construction focus can be on building a strong foundation and structural components.

Pre-engineering systems using steel panels assembled offsite mean metal buildings can go up faster and more cost-effectively than with traditional construction materials. They can also be moved or expanded quickly as future needs change.

The General Contracting Role
Once the building’s basic interior and exterior structure has been raised, the next phase can begin. In a traditional construction project, a secondary general contracting company would come in to install the interior environmental, electrical and plumbing systems as well as drywalling and cosmetic work, such as painting and adding floors, fixtures and equipment.

Double Black Construction handles both the steel construction as well as the general contracting work, so project communication is better, progress is faster, and the work quality remains more consistent. A good, united construction project team helps organize and coordinate the on-site activities between all working groups throughout the construction lifecycle to ensure the client’s vision remains uncompromised. The general contractor role is also responsible for jobsite safety, meeting inspection standards and ensuring the procedures are properly adhered to.

High standards are not only good for completing the best final facility but also for being able to attract and retail the best – and most qualified – building crews.

Steel Building Construction Relies on Skilled Tradespeople
Like all great works of art, talented people are at the heart of creation. Construction is no different. The skilled steel workers and tradespeople from Double Black Construction finish the work and assemble the materials once the client and professionals have settled on a design. Referring to the construction as the heavy lifting portion of the project is not an understatement. Construction is hard work and must be done to a precise standard.

Steel workers and skilled tradespeople follow best practices to ensure the metal structure is built safely and to code. Skilled teams are crucial to the success of your steel building, contributing immensely throughout all phases of construction. Steelworkers are responsible for unloading every piece of steel to be lifted into place and putting the components into position using cranes and other heavy machinery. Structural members are aligned and verified. Beams, columns and girders are then welded into position and inspected.
Finished work is what every client and employee will see as they use the building throughout its existence, so paying attention to detail becomes the measure of how the final completed project ultimately gets evaluated.

Double Black Construction is different because we have built a culture that values quality control over everything else. It’s one of their primary principles and gets complete buy-in from every team member. Our culture has become an important aspect to achieving high-quality work consistently. The company considers quality control an absolute, understood by all, all the time. This is achieved through effective leadership and building a culture that places the customer’s best interests above everything else.
